When assisting foreign nationals with investing in the U.S., one of the most important discussions will inevitably be the one about taxes. Whether a client or his/her business will be exposed to U.S. taxation and to what extent will depend on the residence of the client. The client might be subject to U.S. taxation on his/her worldwide income – or he/she may be subject to income tax only with respect to “U.S. source income” and income that is “effectively connected” with a U.S. trade or business.
